I have created this webpage in the memory of Kurt Donald Cobain. I am just a 16 year old girl. I know, i know- What could I possibly know or understand about Kurt Cobain?. Well, even though I was only four years old when he died, I know and understand every Nirvana song. And I understand how he felt about certain things. (people discriminating against others (gays..etc.)) I also share an illness that he had. You still might not be satisfied, but that doesn't matter. I didn't create this site to proove myself to other Nirvana fans.
I'm not going to write a complete biography about Cobain, but just SOME of the main things.
Cobain was born in Aberdeen, Washington. As far as we know, his early years were his happiest. By the age of seven, he began to idolize Evel Knievel, and would jump off of his roof into a pile of blankets and pillows on his front yard. As a result of this, he was prescribed Ritalin for hyperactivity.
At the age of eight, Cobain's parents got a divorce. After that his personality changed dramatically, he was more withdrawn. Kurt lived with his mother for a year, and then moved to Montesano, Washington, to live with his father. After a while, Cobain's father couldn't put up with his overwhealming rebellion, and Kurt found himself being shuffled between family, and friends.

At school, Cobain didn't take much of an interest in sports, or academics. He focused more an art courses. Because Cobain stood up for gays, and what he believed in, he was often made fun of, or beat up, by homophobics at his school.
In Frebruary, 1992, Cobain admitted that he thought he was gay during highschool. He said "I could be bisexual. If I wouldn't have found Courtney, I probably would have carried on with a bisexual lifestyle." Also, in his journals, he wrote that he was infact, heterosexual, but sometimes he wishes he was gay, just to piss off homophobes.

After realizing that he had way too many credits to complete in school, Cobain dropped out. His mother gave him a choice, to either get a job, or leave. After a week or so, he came home to find his belongings packed up in boxes. He was kicked out of his mother's home. Kurt often stayed at friend's houses, or snuck into his mother's basement. When he couldn't find anywhere to go, he lived under a bridge over the Wishkah River. ("Something In The Way" from the album Nevermind).
When Cobain was 14, he was given the choice of a guitar, or a bike. He chose the guitar. He tried to form bands with friends, but found out that none of them had any musical talent.
Later in highschool, Cobain met Krist Novoselic, and convinced him to join a band with him. This was the begining of Nirvana.

Chad Channing was Nirvana's drummer for their first album, Bleach. But Cobain and Novoselic we'rent entirely satisifed with him. Then they found Dave Grohl.
Kurt first met Courtney Love at a concert in 1989. After a year or so, Courtney began pursuing Cobain. After a while, they began seeing eachother on a regular basis, mainly bonding over drug use.
In 1992, Love found out she was pregnant with Cobain's child. A few days after Nirvana's Australian tour ended, Cobain and Love got married in Hawaii. Frances Bean Cobain was born on August 18th. The middle name, Bean, was given to her because when Cobain first saw her, he thought she looked like a bean.
Throughout most of Cobain's life, he suffered from depression, chronic bronchitis, and physical pain due to a chronic stomache condition. He searched for years for the cause of his stomache pain, but none of the doctors that he saw were able to tell him the exact cause. The doctors guessed that the pain might be because of his scoliosis, or from the stress of performing. Cobain decided to medicate himself...with heroin.

His addiction to heroin grew stronger over the years. His first attempt at rehab was in 1992, after he found out he was going to have a child. But after Cobain got home, and met up with Courtney Love, his addiction resurfaced.
In July 1993, Cobain overdosed on heroin, and instead of calling for an ambulance, Courtney Love injected Cobain with an illegal drug to wake him up. Cobain performed with Nirvana later that night, and is known to be one of Nirvana's most memorable performances, even though no one knew about the incident earlier that night.
While on a tour in Europe to support In Utero, Cobain suffered another bout of bronchitis, and was given a prescription for Rohypnol. In Rome, on March 6th, Kurt overdosed on a combination of Rohypnol and champagne. Love later insisted that was Kurt's first suicide attempt, but the doctor who treated Cobain was certain that it was accidental. When Cobain returned home, he faced an intervention for his continuing heroin addiction. Cobain agreed to check into rehab.
While in rehab in California, Cobain told the nurses he was going outside for a smoke, and when he was done, he jumped the six-foot wall, jumped on a plane to Seattle, and dropped off the radar. He ocasionally hung out with his long time friend, Dylan Carlson. Most of his friends, and family were unaware of where he was. Eventually his mother, and Courtney filed a missing persons report, and hired a private investigater to find him.
On April 8th, 1994, Cobain's body was found in his Lake Washington home, in the spare room above the garage, by a Veca Electric employee, Gary Smith. At first Smith thought Cobain was sleeping, but then saw the little bit of blood coming out of his ear. He also found what he thought might be a suicide note, with a pen stuck through it beneath an overturned flowerpot. A shotgun was found at Cobain's side. An sutopsy report later conluded that Cobain's death was a suicide. They estimated that Cobain died on April 5th, 1994.

The alleged suicide note was written to Cobain's imaginary childhood friend, "Boddah". And in it, he quoted a lyric from Neil Young's song "hey hey, my my": "It's better to burn out than to fade away". Kurt's use of the lyric had a deep impact on Neil Young, who recorded portions of his 1994 album, Sleeps With Angels in Cobain's memory.
After Cobain's death....
There have been many books wriite about Cobain, and his mysterious death. Now, there is also a movie dedicated to him, about what his last few hours of life might have been like. In these books, they have quotes from some of Cobain's Journals, and some of his drawings. In 2005 a sign was put up in Aberdeen, Washington that reads- "Welcome to Aberdeen- Come As You Are" As a tribute to Kurt Cobain.
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967- Apirl 5, 1994) was the lead singer and guitarist of the American grunge band, Nirvana. He wasn't just the band's frontman, but he was also the bands "leader, and spiritual center". With the band's huge success, Cobain became a major national celebrity, which was a very uncomfortable position for someone who claimed to be "ill at ease with fame and ill-equiped to handle the responsiblity that accompanies success". Nirvana, and Cobain were very influential, popularizing what came to be known as grunge music. Cobain's best known song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit", marked the begining of a dramatic shift of popular music away from the percieved superficiality of the 1980's glam-metal, and dance-pop. Eventually, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was awarded "anthem-of-a-generation" and with it, Cobain became the "spokesman" for Generation-X.
